Star Skill Pathway Program

At Artistic Swimming WA, we are committed to technical excellence and athlete development at every level. The Skills Pathway Program is a key initiative that aims to standardise entry-level programs across clubs and centres in Western Australia, while providing a clear and progressive framework for both athletes and coaches.

Inspired by successful international models, this program establishes a benchmark for beginner artistic swimmers in WA, ensuring consistent quality and a solid technical foundation across the state. It serves as a thread that connects all levels of artistic swimming, from recreational participation to high-performance competition, creating a unified and sustainable approach to long-term athlete development.

The Star Skill Program is designed to:

  • Establish consistent technical standards across all clubs
  • Provide athletes with a clear and progressive development pathway
  • Emphasise quality over quantity in skill execution
  • Support coaches in delivering precise and effective technical training
  • Create a unified structure to prepare athletes for higher levels of competition

Information about the assessments

All athletes will have five (5) assessment opportunities throughout the season. The specific dates for each assessment are outlined in the Season Directive

In alignment with our commitment to inclusion and ongoing development, athletes are encouraged to participate in multiple assessments across the year. This approach allows them to continuously improve, refine their technique, and progress confidently through the Star Skills Program.

The Star Skill Program for State Stream

The ASWA Star Skill Program provides a clear, structured, and progressive pathway for athlete development within the State Stream of artistic swimming. It is designed to build technical competency step by step, reward progression, and ensure consistency across clubs and athletes throughout Western Australia.

This Star Skill program is divided into nine levels, known as Stars 1 to 9, each representing a specific stage in the athlete’s development.
